From a local West Tennessee collection comes this Mint or Near Mint W.R. Case numbered pattern 61549L SS, known to us as the medium size copperhead. Not its long pull, beveled point clip blade with the words 1st Run stamped on the blade’s obverse side, indicating this specimen’s status as part of the first year of production of this specific pattern. The old original copperheads, of course, were twice this size, and this one complements the series due to its 4 inch closed overall length, and blade measurement of 3 1/2 inches from heel to point. Note that it is a lock blade variant, with release lever incorporated into the backspring and the genuine blue dyed bone picked handle panels and brass liners recessed for easy operation. Tang marking is 2000 decade style with a total of 7 dots and X figures, manufactured in 2003. This knife has never been sharpened or used, its only surface detractions come from lining contact to the blade tang, faint streaking from opening and closing. We rate it as Mint or Near Mint, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically, in terms of backspring strength. Replacement pricing on this variant, if a person can even find one, is usually in the $100 or more price range in our area.
