Here is the most traditional standard production variant of the now-venerable Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum Stainless, numbered model 629-6. Barrel is 6 inch standard heavy barrel, but not full lug, so this beauty weighs in at a slim-and-trim 45 ounces. The 629, of course, was introduced in 1979, and this sixth engineering change variant incorporates the following specs. Action type is traditional double- and single-action revolver with internal transfer bar safety mechanism and Smith & Wesson patented Internal Lock with two keys. Frame is heat treated Magnum grade N, Large Frame with smooth round butt grip frame and top strap that is drilled for scope mounting. Sights are windage and elevation adjustable White Outline Rear, with Red Ramp Insert Front Sight. Trigger is case colored MIM .400 Smooth faced Combat type; Hammer is floating firing pin type case colored MIM .500 Target. Construction, with the exception of sights, Hammer, and Trigger, is entirely Stainless Steel, including the beveled thumb latch. Grips are factory S&W logo Hogue Combat, professional type with exposed frame backstrap. Photos show a stock specimen we had in 2010.
