From a Nashville area collection comes this very attractive Remington 721 Bolt Action Rifle. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. From its EWW date code, it was manufactured in 1950, third year of a production run that ended in 1962. Construction is steel barrel, receiver, internal magazine, bolt, trigger, guard and floorplate, and walnut stock that has an alloy butt plate. Chambering is .30-06 Springfield caliber. Barrel is 24 inch, with 1:10 six groove right hand rifling. Sights are factory dovetailed two piece rear with black mickey blade and with white diamond additional leaf that is drift adjustable only; single screw dovetailed blade front. Receiver is top drilled on four points, with Weaver #35 and #36 alloy mounts. Note the four side mount drill screws on the left side from an earlier scoping. Action is 700 Long, 4.50 inches between the nearest screw centers. Scope is a period correct K4 El Paso Weaver with Post Crosshair and original lens covers. Factory internal magazine holds 4 rounds of .30-06 Springfield caliber ammunition, 4+1 fully loaded capacity. Safety is rear right side of receiver, southpaw friendly enough. Safety must be in fire position to unload, however. Trigger is .290 serrated adjustable, still on its original single stage 5 1/4 pound setting, with no felt creep or overtravel. Stock has a standard scope sighting drop of 1 7/8 by 2 3/4 inches, measured from the base tops; and with a mild 1/2 inch right hand cast. Model 721s did not ship with swivel studs. Length of pull is 13 1/4 inches from the trigger face to the end of the alloy butt plate. Overall length is 44 1/8 inches. Weight empty no scope is 7 pounds 4 ounces, centered at the bolt face. Metal finish is brushed surface blued, with chrome plated bolt body, handle, cartridge follower, and bolt cap . Stock is traditional DuPont glossy finish. Surface detractions are moderate, principally wood scouring. We rate this 721 as Very Good, 80 to 85 percent by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate it was fired fewer than 200 times during its entire career. We do not warrant the scope; if it fogs, Iron Sight Inc. of Tulsa will be glad to refurbish it in exchange for a Ben Franklin.
