This is a 54 that was sent back to the factory shortly after the Model 70's were introduced in 1936. Either the 37 or 38 catalogue offered to upgrade anyone's 54 through the custom shop. Model 70 Winchester Bolts were installed and numbered to the gun, Super Grade Swivels were added and the gun was totally refurbished under this program. Of course, they did charge for this service. This is the 3rd one of these we have had during all the years we have been in business. None were as nice as this gun. It appears that the gun was used very little because of the condition. Look at the photos. The only real blemish is the wear on the left side of the barrel (pictured) along with some minute handling marks on the wood. Incidently, this gun came from the factory with a Stainless Steel Barrel. This also makes it quite rare, especially in its present condition.
