This highly ornamented Yaeger (Hunter) Rifle was almost certainly owned by a wealthy Nobleman and used for elegant hunts with fellow gentry on his Estate. It was originally a flintlock and later converted to more reliable percussion ca 1830's. It features a strong hooked breech design. Highly carved stock is inlaid with ebony and bone stars. Superbly ornamented stock side plate covering hidden storage compartment. Intricate brass work and hand checkered wrist make for an impressive appearance. An old and sturdy solid brass strip repair to wrist. Handsome wide solid brass trigger guard. The barrel is octagonal and of rare "swamped" design, that is tapered by original gunsmith to reduce weight. The 29" barrel is 75 caliber, well rifled, and boasts seven lands and seven grooves.
