For those of us who can’t quite manage to cough up $500 - $800 for a nice pinned & recessed Bangor Punta era Smith & Wesson K-frame, here’s your chance. This is a very nice Smith & Wesson model 65-2 Stainless 4 inch heavy barrel revolver, serial number 1D723xx, manufactured in 1979 or 1980 at the latest. It has small pecks and scuffs here and there, more pronounced on the right side than on the left, of course. Only the grips are modern, Michaels square butt rubber. We consider this Pinned Barrel K Frame to grade Very Good, about 80 percent finishwise, but the photos should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore and cylinder chambers are Excellent. Blast effect to the bottom surface of the frame topstrap directly above the forcing cone is pronounced, perhaps four thousandths deep and extending to the edges. Lateral cylinder wobble, the ability to move the cylinder with one’s left hand, is no more than 3mm – both with the trigger relaxed and with it pulled all the way. Mechanism is Very Good to Excellent; the hammer travels 2 to 5 degrees after the cylinder times into place on double action and 2 to 10 degrees on a slow single action pull. The only cosmetic detractions to this 65-2 are the serial number somewhat roughly but inconspicuously engraved on the underside barrel flat above the ejector rod and the numeral 6 neatly stamped on the rear of the frame behind the hammer. We are given to understand that this service revolver came from Upstate New York. Own this very nice-looking Heavy Barrel 4 inch 65-2 from the final years of the Carter Administration for only $ 309.95
