From its VLN serial number prefix, and from its mates’ 8020 order code, this Smith & Wesson model 4506-1, first engineering change, was manufactured in January of 1998. It has all the features that made it the best steel frame double action stainless on the market. Factory sku was 148129, special order law enforcement. This pistol spent its brief career serving and protecting our fellow citizens in Cincinnati and Hamilton County under the supervision of Prosecutor-turned-Sheriff, the Honorable Simon L. Leis, Jr. Type is blowback or recoil operated, traditional double- and single-action semi automatic. From a resting hammer, the first shot is a long smooth double action motion, and the hammer stands for single action shooting after the first shot, until the operator puts the car in park by engaging the ambidextrous main safety, which also serves as a decocker. In addition, it has a magazine safety and firing pin safety, total of 3 safeties with no peer in its class. Note that the trigger guard is rounded serrated second type. Weight empty is a superbly balanced, pleasant-shooting 41 ounces, the same as most Government Models. Type is traditional double- and single-action semi-auto; construction is stainless steel with anodized Novak type 3 Dot sights that we have refilled with white polymer; satin stainless ambidextrous safety-decocker levers, anodized .260 spurred hammer, and anodized .305 smooth face combat trigger. Barrel is 5 inch with collar type muzzle and steel full length guide rod, and that combination gave the 4500 series Smith & Wessons their legendary accuracy. This pistol comes with its original stainless bodied, black polymer follower & floorplate factory 8 round magazine, yielding a loaded capacity of 9 rounds, total of one magazine. Grips are Factory straight C type. This 4506 comes in a current production factory box. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of holster contact buffing on its slide edges and frame sides. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate. Slide contact buffing to the barrel is only moderate, and we estimate this pistol has been fired no more than 800 rounds, no rounds at all for a 4506.
