From its V serial number prefix, this Smith & Wesson 9mm Stainless model 5906 was manufactured in 1996. It served and protected our fellow citizens on the Atlantic Coast for a decade, and we have bead blast refinished it to a very nice, non-glare matte stainless. Construction is entirely stainless steel, except for the closely protected adjustable 3 dot sights, .260 serrated spur satin anodized hammer and matching .304 smooth combat trigger. Trigger guard configuration is rounded second type with cleated face. In addition to being a real gun, as some of us put it, entirely steel, this 5906 has more safety features than most autos in service nowadays. Firing pin safety guards against accidental discharges if the pistol is hit or dropped. Ambidextrous main safety decocks the pistol, also to prevent accidental firing if the operator has little enough sense to let the hammer down on a live round by means of the trigger. The main safety puts the car in park, so to speak. Best of all, this 5906 has a magazine safety; even if there is a live round in the chamber, the pistol cannot fire with the magazine removed. Weight empty is 38 ounces. Type is traditional double- and single-action semi-auto. Barrel is 4 inch stainless with distinctively contoured muzzle and full length guide rod that account for the exceptional accuracy of these fine pistols. Grips are new replacement Hogue soft rubber for excellent control and prevention of recoil fatigue for protracted shooting sessions. Magazines are original orange follower 15 shot, LE Law Enforcement marked, but we can sub 10 rounders from the same ban period for civilian buyers in jurisdictions where the 15 rounders are restricted. This pistol comes with a current production factory Smith & Wesson case, instruction manual, and red factory cable. We rate this 5906 as Excellent / Refinish. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent; and bushing contact buffing to the outside of the barrel and guide rod surfaces are only moderate.
