Its AR Date Code puts this Remington 870 Police Wingmaster shotgun at 42 years of age, manufactured in February 1971. It arrived to patrol in the fastest growing suburb of our Nation’s Capital, and ever since then it has served and protected our fellow citizens in Prince George’s County Maryland, on patrol with that distinguished county’s Police Department. The Prince George’s armorers and officers have one of the best reputations in the country for maintaining their service weapons. This one is fully traditional 870 Police Cylinder, Bright blue finish with blue steel shell carrier and serrated blonde corn-cob forend and matching walnut buttstock with original brown rubber factory recoil pad. Finish shows more patrol wear than actual use wear, since annual qualification paces usually amount to 20 rounds, we estimate this shotgun has fired fewer than 1,500 rounds in its lifetime, nothing at all for the tried-and-true 870. Original bluing is still quite strong, with extensive fut inconspicuous freckling and fain edge whitening. Magazine tube whitening is extensive, as the photos show. Forend is plain semi-glossy tru-oil refinish, but the buttstock finish is original. We rate this 870 as Very Good, since about 70 percent of its finish is intact by our estimate. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Specs are slide action shotgun, 20 inch cylinder bore bead sight barrel, capacity 4 + 1 rounds of 2 3/4 inch shells, and weight empty 7 1/4 pounds.
