This is a Springfield M1888 trap door .45-70 made in 1892, with bayonet. This was the last one of the single shots produced, incorporating a stronger latch for the ramrod bayonet. With a breech marking of "U.S. Model 1884", it was one of around 65,000 of this type manufactured between 1889 and 1893. It is in fine condition, 51.9" in length, serial #556xxx. It has a master armorer's cartouche "SWP 1892" indicating Samual W. Porter on the left foreward wrist. The lock is "U.S. SPRINGFIELD", and the barrel is marked with "VP", raised eagle head, "A" inspector's mark, bottom "VP" and firing proof (P in a circle), and are all intact. The bore (.457") and mechanics are virtually perfect. This is a fine, late model, all original, trapdoor rifle. It is an antique - no FFL required. We can take VISA or MasterCard for an additional 2% fee.
