Here is a specimen of the Chinese Type 56 SKS Rifle chambered in 7.62x39 caliber. Manufacturer was Jianshe Arsenal in the People’s Republic of China, on Russian milling equipment and under Russian supervision. From its very early 6 digit 300000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1956, the First Year of Production, and a year when the US only had 350 advisors in South Vietnam. Importer is Century Arms International, so marked on the right side of the barrel. Type, of course, is gas operated semi-automatic rifle. Construction is milled blue steel barrel, receiver and parts; and Asian Hardwood stock. Barrel is standard 20 inch, calibrated military rear sight and elevation adjustable front sight, with drift capability for windage – on the well hooded front sight. Bayonet is period correct blade type. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive on this rifle, with blue wear and gun metal gray showing, principally on the barrel and gas tube surfaces. Trigger group, magazine, bolt, receiver cover, and receiver serial numbers are all matching. Stock is an arsenal replacement with no cartouches. We rate this 59/66 as Good, 60 to 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore shows some etchy texture next to the gas port, but rifling is otherwise sharp and clean, especially the 6 inches forward of the port all the way to the muzzle. A principal reason this rifle is so well preserved is the grease we removed from its exterior surfaces. This is a well made, well preserved, historic and collectable specimen whose mates popped caps at our soldiers in Vietnam; and at our allies in South Korea. We’re offering it for only $ 319.00.
