This is a beautiful James Rinehart of Hampshire County West Virginia Flintlock 38 caliber Rifle with a Full Length Tiger-Striped Stock, circa 1836-1850. The rifle is 54 inches in over all length while the octagonal barrel is 38.5 inches. It is signed,"J. Rinehart", on the top flat of the octagon barrel. The signature on the Lock Plate has been partially obliterated by corrosion as seen in the photos. The Fine curly tiger-striped maple stock has an old hairline crack in the toe as well as a few others near the lock plate and barrel bed in as seen in the magnified photographs. The iron surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The lock action works 100% correct including the set trigger while the rifle components are tight with wood in all areas. It has a beautiful, hinged, engraved, brass patch box and an “J R” engraved brass medallion. I have included many photos to allow potential bidders to fully evaluate the firearm. This beautiful rifle comes as-found from an estate and is totally functional. James Rinehart made rifles in the Hampshire West Virginia area along with his brother John W. Reinhart until about 1850. No FFL is required. The cost of shipping and insurance is $47.00.
