Hunter brand holsters are still in business. They recovered from the onslaught of cordura holsters during the 1980s and 1990s to re-emerge as classic leather holsters nowadays. That was a different story when this specimen was manufactured, some time in the early 1970s by our estimate. Hunters were the cheaper ones. This one still has its $ 3.94 price tag from Sport Mart in Memphis. It is the classic utilitarian Hunter, size number 27, for 8 3/8 inch Medium Frame Revolvers. Reverse side of box shows only one group that fits it, the Smith & Wesson models 14, 17, 48 and 53. Reverse cataloging does not list 6 prefix stainless S&Ws; it does, however, list Great Western and Hawes single actions, the kinds that our proprietor emeritus was closing out in the early 1970s. It is in its original box and still sealed in its shrink-wrapped hanging bag with Model 1100 Size 27 Holster tag. The Hunters sold for the $3 - $4 price range when Bianchis were fetching about $20 apiece, and the Bob Gibbs / Muckleroy’s holsters of the period were $7.95. We’re offering this one, with only a slight per annum adjustment for inflation, for only $ 46.95.
