While this knife is constructed with the standard Imperial or Colonial basic liner-type mechanism prevalent among cheap knives after World War II, this one is distinctive in that its plastic handle panels are riveted all the way through the liners, and the Barlow-marked bolsters are very well and sturdily fitted. The knife’s chief detraction, as the photos show, is that its right handle panel has an inconspicuous chipped area on its lower edge. This is the classic Barlow pattern, descended from the original Russell, though far from it in quality. Note, however, that the blades are full strength width and thickness with a combination gun metal gray and brown patina overall. If not for the toning to the metal, this knife would rank in Excellent Condition. Furthermore, this is a pretty well made Barlow, and bears the stylized Imperial logo on its clip blade tang, with the double line patent numbers on the tang of the pen blade. Mechanism is very strong and tight. Dimensions are standard Barlow specifications, 3 ½ inches overall length closed with the main clip blade measuring 2 5/8 inches from heel to point. This is a grade above run-of-the-mill 1950s and 1960s dime store knives; this one probably cost 50 cents while its flimsy brethren sold for half that. Own it for a price that reflects only a relatively mild accrual of some 50 years of inflation, only $ 29.95
