According to Walt Snyder's book, "The Ithaca Gun Company; From the Beginning" there were only 45,000 Ithaca NID (New Ithaca Doubles) produced from 1926 to 1946. But when analyzing the production of Grade 4 and above guns, there were only 560 Grade 4 guns produced in all gauges, with about 150 or less in 20ga. guns. This gun, sn455798 built in 1929, is a FULLY OPTIONED TRAP CONFIGURED GUN, AND IS ONE OF A TINY HANDFUL OF GUNS SO PRODUCED. In near mint condition, with ULTRA RARE 32" vent rib barrels, beavertail forend, SST, ejectors, double ivory beads, factory pad, this is a true investment quality shotgun with CONDITION, RARITY, AND DESIRABLE AND RARE OPTIONS. And of course, it has that fully figured Ithaca walnut with the fancy flor-de-lis checkering that sets the Ithaca guns apart from all others. This is a great gun!

The 32" vent rib barrels retain 98% factory blue, choked F/F (.032/.029, can be altered to your specs for $100 per barrel), jeweled barrel flats and breech face, red mid bead and ivory front bead (colored red), bore diameter .620/.624, minimum wall thickness 29 thou both barrels, factory ventilated rib tight, excellent bores, no dents, ejectors, tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, an excellent set of barrels.
The action is beautifully engraved with sharp engraving, 98% factory case color, perfect screws, action tight, lever right of center, cocking indicators, strong timed ejectors, Miller Single Selective trigger, trigger guard retains about 95% factory blue, mechanically excellent, gorgeous engraving.
The nicely figured wood has an excellent finish with a small, barely noticeable crazing starting on the left side (wood can be restored to factory perfection for $450), no cracks or splits, excellent flor-de-lis checkering, beavertail forend with ebony insert, 13 1/2" LOP to vintage pad from REAR TRIGGER POSITION (equates to 14 1/2" LOP if it had a front trigger, the wood is not short), 2 5/8" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 10 days of purchase), a great set of wood.
The gun weighs 7 1/4lbs. and balances nicely between the hands. This is not a lightweight field gun you would want to walk all day with, but a fantastic gun for ducks or doves, high volume pigeon or crows, and maybe the perfect sporting clays or trap gun. The weight will greatly reduce felt recoil and the long weight forward barrels will keep your swing smooth and moving; the perfect scenario for the above mentioned uses.
