This Springfield Nation match grade M1 Garand was the first true M-1 rifle that was specifically manufactured by Springfield Armory for military use for accuracy in match shooting.
In 1955 Springfield produced a number of newly machined receivers to closer tolerance specifications then standard field model with serial numbers stating at: 5796945 for "NM" grade. And serial numbers 5813163 for "NM" Type II.
The Serial Number of the rifle being sold is: 58097XX
Each rifle barrel was hand lapped to a uniformed tolerances of .301 bore diameter and had to meet a targeting specification, before it was stamped with "T" stamp for "Targeted" and an inverted "P" with a center punch in the "P" loop for NM. Walnut stocks were hand selected for tightness of fit and cross grain. Other parts were hand picked and fitted to closer tolerances by the armor of each weapon.
The Springfield Garand M1 rifle, MN-1 was the first true experiment in accursing the M1 Garand to a Match grade rifle specifications. And evolved in the following years.
the weapon is in top shooting condition. Some gas cylinder exterior finish ware. I shot no more the 75-rds. since I have owned it, and it shoot and functions great.
I added new gas (Non-adjustable) plug that softens the recoil rearward operating rod hammering, witch works great with any type of ammunition and saves the parts from any "slamming"damage.
I am now, going on 70-year old and am have problems focusing through the small aperture and rather not modify the sight.
I will sell the rifle, rater the modify it.
