According to its ACF serial number prefix, this .357 Military & Police Heavy Barrel Stainless was manufactured in 1983, the Year that President Reagan announced his Star Wars SDI Program. It is a fully traditional model 65, third engineering change, with the Satin Stainless hammer and smooth .312 Satin Stainless Combat Trigger. Grip frame is true square butt. This is a service revolver, and its hammer has a moderate amount of pitting on its sides. There is surface pitting as well on the left side of the trigger, as the photos show. Other surface detractions on the frame, barrel, and cylinder have been diminished considerably by polishing. Scouring and scuffing are mostly confined to the lower right area of the frame and trigger guard. Matte texture is still strong on top of the frame and barrel. Mid 1980s Pachmayr SK-L grips are this revolver's own service grips, and they show only moderate wear. The Pachmayrs conceal superficial pitting on the extreme rear areas of the left side of the frame and right frame side edges next to the grip frame. We rate this revolver as Very Good, since we estimate that 80 to 85 percent of its finish is free of detractions; but photos should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. It is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, only a faint etchy streak that traverses about 2/3 of the width of the top strap with no apparent cutting. This revolver has seen very few magnum loads fired through it. Lateral play to the cylinder is negligible as well, no more than 1.5 mm total with the trigger relaxed; and negligible, less than 1/2 mm, movement with the trigger depressed all the way. Double action trigger pull is exceptionally smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels an additional 10 degrees or more after the cylinder times in double action. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 20 to 25 degrees on all six. The single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 7/8 pounds. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is an exceptionally tight .004. This is a very well constructed, eminently serviceable, attractive and collectable early Siegler / Reagan era Smith & Wesson Magnum. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
