Description: MUZZLE LOADER DBL HAMMER, CAP AND BALL SHOTGUN: A great looking vintage double barreled black powder cap and ball shotgun that is in very good condition for it's age. The barrels have no dents - no deep pitting or major corrosion (some minor rust on and in the barrels but definitely within the scope of normal and could easily be fixed). If you decide to fire it, you would not want to fire anything but low base black powder loads in it,if you fire it at all, but,it functions and works very well. I always recommend that you have a certified gunsmith check it out before shooting. The stock appears to be American Walnut and has an inset brass plate, on the bottom side of the stock, that opens to hold caps (has some caps in it). There are other brass accents on the stock. The stock is in good condition with only minor dints. It has a long, engraved, metal thumb rest behind and between the triggers, which attaches the stock to the barrels. The barrels appear to be 16 bore percussion 25" long barrels. The shotgun appears to be in good working order. Action locks up tight and hammers work well. One hammer hinge pin is worn/loose (a common occurrence) and needs to be replaced to tighten up the hammer. However, overall the action seems solid with both hammers cocking/functioning well and both triggers functioning correctly. There are engraved side plates with Pheasants on both. There is also a place for engraving on each, which has "S. Phillips" engraved thereon. Also, there is engraving on the top of the mid-area between the barrels and the name "London" engraved thereon. the original ramrod is missing. This shotgun dates back, I believe, to the mid-1800's or earlier. Purchaser is responsible for knowing and abiding by their local laws which apply to the purchase of a firearm.
