Remington’s 14 series rifles enjoyed a production span from 1948 until 1970. These fine little rifles were so well made, they’ll outlast most of us; and their accuracy rivals that of very pricey current production models on the market now. Here is a very nice specimen of the Model 514. This rifle comes to us from an estate in nearby Shelby County Tennessee, where it has been well preserved since its reimportation about 30 years ago. Its CD barrel code dates its manufacture to April of 1957. It went south to Mexico, and came back home in the 1980s through Virginia Importer Odin, who stamped and serialized it on the left rear side of the receiver. Surface detractions are moderate to minimal. Metal bluing is quite strong and original, with some brown tint showing on the forward section of the barrel, on the bolt handle, and on the sides of the steel trigger. Edge whitening is moderate on the bolt and trigger guard. Buttstock is a well executed semi gloss oil re-finish with minimal residual scouring. Buttplate is original with minimal edge flaking. Michaels QD white spaced studs and swivels are correctly centered with no wood damage and attractive aging to the liners. Sling is unmarked Mexican made middle grade leather, circa late 1960s, 1 inch Military style with custom brass Chicago Screw. We rate this 514 as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Operation buffing to the bolt surface is moderate. Bolt spring and extraction is good and strong. We estimate this 514 has been fired fewer than 1000 rounds. This is, of course, a bolt action single shot with bolt mounted, thumb operated safety. Caliber is .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle. Barrel is original 24 1/2 inches, original dovetailed blade front sight and blue stepped steel screw-on rear sight. Stock is original American Walnut, and its length of pull is the original 13 3/8 inches from the trigger face to the butt plate. We’re offering this very nice Eisenhower Era Remington 514 for only $ 219.00.
