Here is Mossberg’s Tactical .410 gauge model 500, the HS410: Home Security Special Purpose. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons, New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Type is pump or slide action shotgun. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, bolt, internal parts, and trigger, fitted in a light weight alloy frame. Buttstock and forend are graphite based synthetic polymer, with pistol grip forend. Barrel is 18 1/2 inch Spreader, with a ported muzzle brake that expands from .410 diameter at the bore muzzle to .600 or 20 gauge at the brake’s muzzle end. Chambering is .410 gauge, 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably. It will cycle any .410 gauge ammunition, including our brass plated steel case Russian 3 inch #4s. Sight is hex base brass bead, mounted on the brake; receiver has serrated sighting grooves on its top, but Mossberg does not drill its .410 receivers for optic bases. Magazine capacity is 5 each 2 1/2 inch shells, or 4 each 3 inch shells, so a loaded capacity of 5 + 1 on 2 1/2 inch. Safety is classic Mossberg tang mounted, southpaw friendly on its own, but the 3/4 inch right hand cant of the buttstock conspires against left hand shooters. Length of pull is 12 3/4 inches from the smooth face of the.275 steel trigger to the end of the factory 7/8 inch recoil pad. Weight empty is 5 pounds 5 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. Finish is matte blued steel, matte anodized alloy, and Moonshine Muddy Girl® Camo synthetic stock and forend. Buttstock sling stud is QD blue steel, and the barrel lug cap is drilled for another stud that is not included but commonly available. This HS410 and its mates come to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. They served light duty, likely with Mossberg’s sales reps and writers. Each has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of handling wear or sticker stain, really no more than one commonly sees on many brand new guns on display in stores across the country. We rate these Mossbergs as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. If these shotguns have ever been fired, it was fewer than 25 times.
