First year production Fox 20ga. A Grade with crisp, clear, early style engraving. There are very few 20ga. A grade guns with this fine, delicate English scroll style engraving, as they were only produced for 1-2 years and then the rougher, Germanic, Gough engraving pattern took over. This fine little bird gun was produced in 1912, serial number 200039, the 39th graded 20ga. produced. It has 26” lightweight barrels with excellent bores, .610R/.609L internal diameter, choked Cyl/LM (.001/.010). It appears the left barrel choke is unaltered, as it tapers for 4” or so. It is likely this gun was ordered with open chokes. Barrels have 100% rust blue, 2 ¾” chambers, no dents or pits, extractors, tight ribs that ring true. Barrels are tight on face and hinge, lever far right of center. Receiver retains about 15% case color, the balance a pleasant gray/silver, excellent screws, crisp double triggers, trigger guard has about 80% original nitre blue. Wood to metal fit is excellent, wood retains much of what appears to be original finish, normal handling marks, no splits or chips, crisp excellent checkering, 14 ¼” LOP to Silver’s pad, 2 ¾” DAH, 1 ½” DAC, for excellent shooting dimensions, ½ round pistol grip, snap-on splinter forend. Most consider the snap on type forend superior to the later Ansley-Deeley type. At 5lbs. 11oz. and balanced on the hinge pin, this is the ultimate upland gun. Carry all day and mounts like lightning. I shoot skeet from a down gun with it and it simply shreds clay targets. Beautiful little Fox at a bargain price.
