EXCELLENT* or VERY GOOD* condition ANTIQUE Second model 1873 Winchesters are becoming harder and harder to find each year. This is a Second Model, SN 42144, with 90 to 95% original blue steel finish and original factory Varnish finish (Special Order feature- See Madis' Book). It has the Brass Rocky Mountain front sight. The rear sight and the dust cover may be replacements. Dust cover is a correct replacement and fits very snug and tight. Second models of the 1873 have the screwed on dust cover rail and some have the serrated grip at the rear of the dust cover, as this one does. The stock wood has nice "figure", the serial number is Script Style,and there are no caliber markings on the gun which is normal or standard for this serial number, in .44 W.C.F. SCOF VERY GOOD: A "very good" gun is in perfect working condition with no appreciable wear on working surfaces, no corrosion or pitting and only very minor scratches. All original parts with at least 80% of the original finish. Original metal surfaces are smooth. Lettering and designs are clear. Wood may be slightly scratched or bruised. There may be some very minor repairs or alterations. The barrel looks quite heavy and measures .830" at the muzzle. Round barrels are very scarce, so I could not research if it is a heavy barrel. If anyone can give me the breech and muzzle diameters for a heavy round barrel .44 WCF , I'd appreciate it. *NRA ANTIQUE condition of EXCELLENT and *SCOF ANTIQUE condition VERY GOOD could both apply and the price would still be $8,000., but because of the dust cover and rear sight, I have priced it lower, at 6,700. Anyway, it is an EXCELLENT Second Model 1873 Winchester with a very excellent, shiny bore and well worth the price.
