S&W 681 No Suffix VG 1983 Exceptionally Smooth Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Full Frame Revolver
Description: Here is a very nice .357 Distinguished Service Magnum Stainless with no model number suffix. Its serial number prefix is ABY, likely early 1983, the fourth year of production. This is a fully traditional 681 and a nice one. Its surface detractions only amount to moderate holster buffing, principally on the cylinder surfaces and forward sides of the barrel and its underlug. Thumb latch screw has mild stress, but not the excellent condition of the side plate screws. Matte area atop the frame has faint buffing above the frame, and thin amounts of scouring on the right edge of the frame. Satin Stainless hammer and trigger are full strength original finish and very attractive. Replacement Pachmayr SK-P Combat grips are mid 1980s, period appropriate. We rate this revolver as a strong Very Good, with 85 percent or so of its original classic S&W streaked-stainless finish intact. It is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is only a light shallow etchy crease that traverses most of the width of the top strap evenly. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect .007. Double action trigger pull is an exceptionally smooth and measure-able 8 ¼ pounds, and the hammer travels a full 15 degrees in all six positions after the cylinder times into place in double action. On single action, the hammer travels a full 25 to 30 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is a very, very crisp 2 15/16 pounds. This revolver belonged to a competent certified Smith & Wesson armorer in our area, and it has few peers for serviceability and excellent mechanical condition. It is, we are told, extremely accurate and consistent both with full magnum loads and with wadcutters. Included is a period appropriate southpaw Bucheimer Federal Man Holster that is softened up enough to fit. We're offering it for only $ 549.95 NOT FOR SALE TO CALIFORNIA OR MASSACHUSETTS DESTINATIONS.

Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony. GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
