This rifle may be one of a kind. A real working squirrel gun. 114 year-old 1890 takedown model(Second Model)in very difficult to find .22 Long Rifle. Barrel is marked with "22 SHORT," but rifle is configured for .22 Long Rifle (use of .22 Short and .22 Long Rifle cartridges was enabled by adaptation of the chamber to .22 Long Rifle dimensions and use of a specially fabricated .22 Short carrier adapter which shortened the effective carrier length when using .22 Short ammunition; this adapter was lost about 40 years ago). According to the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, this .22 Long Rifle chamber adaptation with its companion .22 Short adapter fabrication is the work of a good gunsmith- probably LeFever Arms of Frankfort, NY, the gunsmith that also installed a wonderful King adjustable rear sight about 60 years ago and where this rifle was purchased. Manufactured in 1900 (Serial No. 84XXX); very accurate shooter. Metal has fair amount of blueing with a brown patina emerging; crack along bottom of forearm that does not affect operation at all. Nicely grained stock.Very sound and smooth and 100% functional. Insured shipping included. Will be shipped in a reusable Cameron Packaging shipping carton with foam plastic liner.
