S&W 15-4 .38 Spl Blue 4 in AS 1978 VG Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Full Frame Revolver
Description: Here is a very attractive Smith & Wesson K-38 Masterpiece Model 15-4 with 34K serial number prefix, manufactured in 1978. That makes it a Bangor Punta era, and it has the pinned barrel. This 15 has strong original bluing throughout with moderate holster wear. Its chief surface detraction is that the butt of the grip frame is a brown patina from weather and arm contact. Holster wear is elsewhere moderate, whitening on the muzzle sides and on the sharp edges of the frame, cylinder faces, and cylinder flute edges. Grips have professionally refinished to a nice glossy Tru-Oil finish with minimal detractions. Note that the grips are beveled on the extreme rear of the frame butt, that leaves a small amount of metal showing. Both panel logos show pronounced bronzing, and there is moderate but inconspicuous flattening on the raised areas opposite the checkering on the backstrap ridge of both panels. Checkering is strong on both panels. Original color casehardened finish to the serrated service hammer and trigger is intact, but weak. We rate this 15-4 as Very Good, since we estimate that 80 percent of its finish is intact; photos, however, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. This K-38 Masterpiece is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is minimal, only a faint thin line with no depth or width that traverses about 2/3 of the width of the frame top strap. The owner missed out on the too-hot Super Vel rounds of the 1970s. Double action trigger pull is tight and consistent, and the hammer travels an exceptional 15 degrees on all six positions after the cylinder times into place on double action. On single action, the hammer travels a full 35 degrees on all six after the cylinder times, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp 3 1/2 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed, about 1mm total movement, and negligible with the trigger pulled all the way. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a respectable but above average .009. This fact, along with the absence of wear on the ejector rod and lack of blast effect, indicates to us that this revolver has seen very little actual firing during its career. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony. GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
