LG3037 From Russian ordnance houses where it has been carefully stored and re-stored now for 65 years comes this German Military 98 Mauser in 8x57 Mauser caliber in its original Laminated Military Stock with matching number cartouches, just like it was issued to the German Army in 1941. Manufacturer code bcd is above the chamber ring, Gustloff-Werke Weimar, with the date beneath. Serial number is 3800-P range, correct for Gustloff production from 1941. Waffenamt and proof marks are intact, but there has been some remarking at two places on the bolt surface and once on the floorplate. Bolt as well was scribed with the matching receiver number by the Victorious Russian Armorers, and they installed an attractive matte blue. Lettering is sharp throughout, and surfaces show a minimal amount of pre-blue superficial pitting. Center Waffenamt on the receiver-to-barrel ring is distinctive, with raised Eagle’s Wings. In the bore, as we have tried to show with the photos, the rifling lands are strong and pronounced; rifling grooves, however, have pronounced etchy rough texture throughout. Bore will only rate fair by our estimate. Bolt and mechanism are clean and excellent. Stock has post refinish moderate weathering and scouring; other than its stock, this rifle will rate as Excellent Refinish. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Note that importer’s marks, are on the left side of the barrel next to the rear sight, R-Guns, C’ville, Il.
