We consider this Smith & Wesson model 4566, traditional double action .45 Automatic, to be in Very Good Condition. The 4566 is, of course, what we call the Commander Size, with a 4.25 inch barrel compared to the full size 5 inch barrel on the parent 4506 Pistol. These were manufactured from 1991 to 1999 only. This one’s serial number prefix is TFL, making it likely one of the first year of production from 1991. It comes with a total of two 8-shot original factory magazines. Note the desirable and traditional Satin Stainless Trigger and Hammer.
Scuffing detractions affect 20 to 25 percent of the surface area, but those on the metal are only polishing effects from holster insertion, removal, and pressure. Most external wear consists of holster-buffed areas on the upper forward sections of the slide, the lower forward section of the frame, and the bottom and edges of the trigger guard. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent; and while the single action pull is a tight but crisp 6 ¼ pounds. As far as indicators of the amount of firing, the inner slide face near the extractor has light buffing toward the top, bushing contact indicators on the muzzle area of the barrel is moderate, and contact to the guide rod is more pronounced, as the photos show. Bore and chamber are Excellent and clean. Box, of course, is current production S&W, not the pistol's original box but a factory box nevertheless.
