Winchester Model 21 TRAP SKEET 20GA. FACTORY EUROPEAN WALNUT
Most double gun enthusiasts are well aware of the reputation earned by the Winchester Model 21; a gun of far superior strength and mechanical genius that was under the micro management of John Olin himself. With only 32,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition, original Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm sure to appreciate as you enjoy its use. The Trap/Skeet Grade was only produced for about 5 years, so it is scarce as a Grade. From 1930 to 1943 they only made 1900 20 gauge guns in all grades, most of them Standard Grades or Skeet Grades. This gun, sn9844 made in 1936, is in near new condition and has fantastic wood and original metal finishes. The Trap Grade was said to have special attention to boring, chokes, and finish with highly figured wood, and checkered side panels. The "Trap/Skeet" was a skeet choked Trap Grade. The factory records (provided with sale of gun) show this gun was shipped with special authorized wood and is unusual for a Model 21 as it is highly figured European walnut. It also was factory ordered with a 14 1/2" LOP for the more modern stock dimensions a lot of shooters seek.
The 26" barrels retain 99% factory blue, mirror bores, choked WS1 both barrels (what a grouse gun!), bore diameter of .615 right, .618 left, minimum barrel wall thickness 30 thou right, 24 thou left, no scratches, pits, or dents, 2 3/4" chambers, ribs tight, white mid bead, red front, ejectors strong and timed, barrels tight on breech face and hinge as a new gun, a perfect set of barrels.
The action retains 99% factory blue, perfect screws, action tight with lever right of center, crisp single selective trigger, trigger guard has 99% blue, stamped "TRAP-SKEET" on the trigger plate, all in perfect mechanical condition.
The factory wood is a pleasant change from the typical American black walnut seen on most Model 21 guns. Fully figured with most all of the factory finish remaining, excellent checkering, no cracks, splits, or repairs, perfect wood to metal fit, 14 1/2" LOP to checkered butt, 2 1/4" drop at heel, 1 5/8" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 2 weeks of purchase), forend in same condition as butt stock, a great set of wood. The factory letter specifies these longer stock dimensions and special wood.
This is a very attractive gun ready for your upland game and clays games this season. At 6 1/2lbs. and balanced just so in hand, it is a shooting machine in near new factory condition. Collector/shooters who favor Model 21's are always looking for a factory gun with some different and desirable features. The wood on this gun is much different than normally seen. M21 Trap/Skeet guns in 20 gauge were usually shipped with 14" LOP, leaving them short for many modern shooters. To find one with a factory 14 1/2" LOP is very rare. In short, this gun is a great investment gun with special features. Don't hesitate as it will not last long with the hunting/shooting season weeks away!
