Very nice vintage 1886 Winchester in the desirable 45-70 caliber with 26 inch octagon barrel. The bore is very good plus, I rate it a strong 7.5 to 8 on a 1 to 10 scale, rifling is still sharp and bright with light wear. I have test fired and the headspace is perfect. The front sight is a Winchester #21 with set screw and nickel silver blade. The rear sight is a Winchester #42A marked "1886", intact and in fine condition. The barrel and magazine retain 70% thinning blue. The receiver is mechanically excellent, feeds, chambers, fires and ejects properly. The screw head slots are all sharp and appear unturned. The stock and forend are solid and tight with no evident cracks or extra holes. There are the usual handling marks from 117 years of use but nothing I would note as significant. Wood has not been sanded or refinished. Overall a solid vintage 1886 in 60%+ condition. The Cody letter states 45-70 octagon barrel rifle with plain trigger, received in warehouse April 13, 1896 and shipped November 07, 1896. I'll take additional photos if you'll specify the views you would like to see.
