Taurus continued its innovative ways about 5 years ago, with this modified, beefed-up descendant of the Smith & Wesson K frame, fitted with a 5 shot .44 Smith & Wesson Special caliber cylinder and barrel. This is as small and light as a person can get a .44 Special and it still be manageable. Factory specs are as follows: Manufacturer's item number 2-445021UL; Single and Double Action Revolver; caliber .44 Special; 2 inch full lug non-ported barrel; 5 round capacity; Ramp Front and U-Notch Rear Fixed Sights; Round Butt grip frame with Taurus Ribber serrated Rubber Grips; 21.1 ounce weight empty; Blue Steel Barrel and Cylinder with gloss anodized finish alloy frame; and with traditional case color finish serrated hammer and .400 smooth combat trigger; transfer bar safety and Taurus patented internal hammer lock with two keys. This specimen comes in a factory box marked, Factory Reconditioned. It carries, writes the label, the Exclusive Taurus Functional Repair Policy, but not on its finish. We know of no one who warrants finish anyway. We do not detect any finish weakness whatsoever, apart from faint cylinder rotation marking; and this Taurus is in its factory box just like it recently left the Miami warehouse, with its manual and keys for its internal lock. We rate it as Mint or Near Mint and unfired, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. We have not cleaned it; any residue in the bore or cylinder chambers, comes from test firing in Miami at the Taurus International Facility. Taurus has now discontinued this fine revolver.
