The first run of model 39s hit in 1954, according to the Standard Catalog; they borrowed from the venerable Walther P-38 and also had John Moses Browning’s influence upon the barrel system. 39-2 production began about 1959 as premium non-numbered specimens. These pistols set the standard for years for quality lightweight semi-auto 9mms. This specimen’s serial number range is A232000, manufactured in 1974. Basic factory pecs are traditional double-and-single action semi-auto pistol; caliber 9mm Luger; 8 + 1 magazine capacity on the original blue steel magazines with steel floorplate, and 9 + 1 capacity on the currently produced stainless mags with polymer floorplate; gloss black alloy grip frame; original factory walnut grip panels with a plain oil finish; serrated blue steel hammer and .365 blue steel smooth face combat trigger; magazine safety, firing pin safety and left-side / right-hand-shooter decocking safety; windage adjustable blade insert Lollipop rear sight with slide-integral 1/8 inch serrated ramp front sight; 4 inch barrel; weight empty 27 ounces. Surface detractions are only moderate, principally drawer storage whitening along the upper grip frame and trigger guard. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
