We are offering for sale an antique Virginia Manufactory Model 1815 Richmond percussion rifle. This U.S. Military piece was originally made as a flintlock rifle circa 1815 but was later converted to a percussion rifle and re-issued to the NEW JERSEY MILITIA during the Civil War. This rifle is chambered in .69 caliber.
32 ½” smooth bore barrel is in good condition. It has a nice patina that ranges from a lighter to darker brown in spots. Bore is fair to good with signs of pitting. Barrel is marked “N.J.” for the New Jersey State Militia. Missing the nipple. Pitting to breach end. Cleaning rod appears to be damaged on receiver end.
The receiver is also in good condition with patina; surface pitting. It reads “Virginia Manufactory” under the hammer with the latter half being quite rubbed. Behind the hammer it reads “Richmond” and “1815”. Sideplate, barrel bands and trigger guard have matching number “7” markings.
The stock is in fair to good condition. There is definite wear as this rifle probably saw action during the Civil War. There are a few closed cracks on both shoulder stock and fore-end with a couple being “pinned” (not a recent repair). It looks like a “B” may have been carved in the shoulder stock, perhaps by Civil War soldier.
