This is Express Rifle #8, made by Columbia Precision Woodworking in the early 1990's (one of a series of ten such guns). It is a .45-90 WCF with 32" half round barrel, deluxe wood (14 and 3/8" length of pull)and two different sight systems (Williams receiver mounted peep sight, Columbia Precision Tang Peep Sight, and a Marbles fold down rear barrel sight). The gun was made as a standard model (retail then was $4795.00), but was returned to CPW and deluxe stocks were added in 2005 (work done by Perry Mittlestadt, Waverly, Colorado). The butt stock is of extra length, very plain at the wrist and finely figured further back, to insure lasting use with heavy recoil. The stock is of the rare, perch belly, target style, with cheek piece for a right handed shooter, and has a checkered steel butt plate. Stocks are oil finished. The gun metal is finished with a slightly matted blue, not high gloss. The original action for this gun was a Model 71 Winchester, machined to take the .45-90 cartridge. The gun is capable of both extreme accuracy and maximum loads. Loading data is available from the previous owner, one such load achieving in excess of 2000 FPS with a 350 grain bullet. This is truly a one-of-a-kind rifle made in the tradition of the very few Winchester Model 1886 long range, heavy caliber rifles. Measurements and configuration of this gun match Winchester specs. The gun is in virtually new condition. More pictures available. Include your email address in inquiries.
