LG3032 From Russian ordnance houses where it has been refurbished and carefully stored now for 65 years comes this German Military 98 Mauser in 8x57 Mauser caliber in its original Laminated Military Stock, just like it was issued from the Mauser Arsenal in Borsigwalde to the German Army in 1939, code 243. Serial number is 4200 E suffix range, correct for Borsigwalde Mausers from 1939. Waffenamt and proof marks are intact, with a distinctive Borsigwalde proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver ring, and with a trio of well defined traditional Eagle-and-Swastika Waffenamts on the right side. This rifle has remarking at two places on the bolt surface with mismatches to numbers on the floorplate and trigger guard. Bolt as well was scribed with the matching receiver number by the Victorious Russian Armorers, and the bluing has been arsenal refinished. Bore is Good to Very Good, sharp rifling lands with some etchy appearance to the grooves, but with no outright pitting that we can see. Chamber and mechanism are clean and Excellent. Scouring to the stock finish is only moderate. We rate this rifle as Very Good, Refinish; photos, however, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Note that importer’s marks, are on the left side of the barrel next to the rear sight, R-Guns, C’ville, Il.
