This is a NON IMPORT USGI M1 Carbine made by Saginaw (General Motors). This rifle was purchased by a friend of mine back in about 1960 thru the NRA DCM program. I think he paid about 25.00 for it. It's as issued and sent to him from the arsonal. Harold had to go into a nursing home and he sold me his guns, we went to high school together. As far as I know he never fired it. When i got it I cleaned the stock of old cosmoline and rubbed about 5 coats of boiled linseed oil on it over about 3 months.I changed the butt plate to a nicer looking one. The stock has the usual nicks, and dark spots here and there but no chips, cracks or repairs, a very nice looking stock. The stock looks much better than the Pic's show. Saginaw from what i've read integraded a lot of parts from Underwood in order to meet production.
Receiver marked Saginaw serial number 3331736, barrel marked Underwood 2-44, barrel band marked AMco, front sight si-u, handguard unmarked, safety HT, rear sight JAO, slide .U., bolt .U., triger housing .U. with 2 little flaming bombs stamped on the bottem. Stock marked HI in sling well and a large .U. on the left side. One 20 round magazine marked U. All of these carbines went thru a rebuild program after WWII. I think the rifle looks much better than the pictures depict. The important thing here to remember is it's a NON IMPORT. The finish is original USGI and a green/gray color. The barrels bore and chamber are like new and shine like a mirror. The crown and muzzle are like new. You can shoot this little rifle for the rest of your life and never wear it out. 1295.00 or best offer. The imports are bringing around a 1000 right now and they are nasty, built up crap for the most part. Feel free to email for my phone number for a first hand discription.
