Sig Sauer has for years owned the top end of the modern handgun market with pistols generally regarded by professionals as the best handguns available because of their accuracy, simplicity, and legendary "To-Hell-and-Back" reliability. Applying their expertise and sense of style to the Colt "pocket" auto 1911 design of the mid 1980's, Sig has given birth to a new American classic. The diminutive Sig P238's simple, clean design and flawless execution far exceed the norm found in the ancestral Colt Mustang and Mustang Pocketlite editions. This upscale P238 Rosewood package sports striking styling and every extra available from Sig for the P238. Weighing in at only 15 ounces, the P238 is essentially a scaled down version of the John Browning's original 1911 "Government Model" design. Although hard to come by in recent years, 1911 Government model type .380's like the P238 continue to have a strong following among knowledgeable shooters because of their inherent strength, reliability, accuracy, and classic design.
The Rosewood version of the P238 features well figured, lavishly carved, dark brown, wood grip panels held on by four hex screws. The frame is blackened hard anodized alloy and is topped with a Nitron® finished black stainless slide and barrel. A half-dozen prominent cocking serrations are molded into the rear of the slide, and the top of the slide is frosted to reduce glare along the sight plane. The gun's main controls are a grooved single action only (SAO) trigger, a magazine release in the conventional location behind the trigger guard on the left side, and a typical 1911-type slide catch lever, also on the left side.

-- Crisp SAO trigger system - Spec'd at 7.5-8.5 lbs, the P238's trigger is heavy enough for safe carry but light and crisp enough for accurate shooting (the press has reported sub 1.5" groups out to 15 yards). SAO operation means that the trigger is lighter lighter and shorter than its DA (double action) competitors and always feels the same, first shot to last shot, an important combat feature.
-- Extended Grip Magazine - The bonus Sig Sauer X-Grip magazine holds 7 rounds and provides a firmer hold on the pistol.
-- Open Top Concealment Holster - Made of padded leather that is very durable as well as comfortable, this Sig branded clip holster is extremely versatile and ambidextrous. It is flexible enough to hold a P238 with the Trigger Guard Laser module mounted.
-- TGL – the Trigger Guard Laser for the P238 is a compact, lightweight red laser integrating pinpoint accuracy and rapid target acquisition with simple controls.
Perhaps the best feature of the P238, however, is that it has the same operating system as its bigger 1911A1 cousins. The P238 uses the same "recoil" operating principle as larger pistols, which requires a less stiff recoil spring and is easier to work for people with low hand strength.
