Until fairly recently, there was no such thing as a lightweight stainless Colt. Here is a series 70 Commander Lightweight that has been professionally refinished to hard chrome; and it looks more stainless than the current crop of Lightweight Commanders that are stainless. Work was performed by one of the .45 customizers in nearby Shelby County, Tennessee. Note the three or four photos that show residual roughness at places on top of the slide and on the back of the beavertail grip safety, these are minor but visible. The only other surface detractions on this pistol are one small short streak on the left side of the frame from cylinder stop lever contact, faint amounts of whitening to the sight edges, and hints of darkness to the sides of the hammer. Sights are Mepro Night Sights, about 10 years old, and they still show full luminosity. Grips are current production Colt hard rubber. Trigger is the original serrated face Series 70 trigger that this pistol came with; both magazines are new Colt Factory 8 shot. This pistol is excellent throughout. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. This has always been a civilian owned pistol and we have personal knowledge that it has been fired fewer than 400 rounds. Trigger pull is the original 5 1/8 pounds with minimal felt creep, this Commander’s action has not ever been worked or altered in any way other than the refinishing process and installation of the grip safety. Weight empty is 28 3/4 ounces. Barrel, of course, is 4 1/4 inch, and bushing, spring, and spring cap are all original. This pistol was manufactured in 1977, and its serial number ends with the digits 1970. It comes with a current production factory box and factory Series 70 Government instruction manual.
