Pre-War Model 70 300 H&H. Barrel is dated 1938, early 1939 manufacture. Rifle shows honest wear, bottom metal is coin bright with numerous sctatches but no sign of rust or pitting. The stock has a recoil pad added, but the LOP appears to be unaffected . The rear bridge has been drilled and tapped for scope as was very common. There is a visible crack in the rear of the stock behind the bolt handle cut out that can be easily repaired (See picture). The stock has not been bedded and is stamped 37 in the barrel channel. The bore is bright and accuracy is very good, this rifle appears to have been carried alot but fired little. This is a third year production rifle and represents the best of Winchester craftsmanship before the War.It is fitted with the correct Lyman 22G rear sight and early style safety with clover leaf rear tang. These early rifles had cut rifled barrels with an intrigal front sight ramp and fine line hand checkering on the stock. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to own a true example of "The Riflemans Rifle" without paying a premium for a collector grade gun.
