HG2050 When Smith & Wesson introduced their Sigma Series pistol in the mid 1990s, Glock filed suit immediately – and won. This Sigma Smith & Wesson model SW40E came into production in 1997, and we believe this is one of the first year’s production specimens. This SW40E is very similar to the Glock in operation and disassembly / reassembly – a very simple, economical, well made pistol that has served honest conservative Peace Officers and Civilians alike. We sold dozens of them per year for the past 14 years with good effect, and a very small return ratio, fewer than 3 out of 100 have required service of the ones we’ve sold in our local area. This is one of only a few we were able to get, that were traded to Smith & Wesson on a large Department turnover from the Northeastern US. It comes with two 14 round Law Enforcement Magazines from the Federal Ban Period. It has the integral, late 1990s Walther-type rail, a thinner configuration with better grip frame serrations and a slightly raised slide rib. Surface holster wear is minimal, merely faint amounts of whitening on the slide edges, sight edges, and extractor. We rate it as Very Good, perhaps even Excellent, since no more than 10 to 15 percent of its surfaces are affected by holster wear by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; we estimate that it has been fired fewer than 500 rounds, since normal annual qualification procedure is 60 rounds per year. Bore and mechanism are excellent. Night sights are quite strong, 70 to 80 percent by our estimate from our inspection in our dark room. Factory specs are as follows: caliber .40 S&W; double action only; 4 inch steel barrel and slide; polymer frame; two each 14 shot stainless magazines yielding a 14 + 1 loaded capacity; fixed three-dot night sights; weight empty 24 3/8 oz.
