Engraved Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum Double Action Revolver serial #S179480, 44 Magnum, 6 1/2" barrel with a like new bore. The metal surfaces of this Pre-29 series four-screw revolver retain 99% polished blue that is lightly flaking to brown in the cylinder flutes. The hammer and trigger retain nearly all the original vibrant case colors. The sides of the frame, crane, cylinder, walls and rear sides of the barrel feature wonderful relief foliate pattern engraving that has a stippled background and have gold inlaid outlines and borders. The lettering and S&W logo have also been accented with gold fill. The work was performed by Ray Viramontez, a German trained U.S. engraver who is very well respected, and is listed as a master engraver by the Firearms Engravers Guild of America. One of his best known pieces is the Ruger Standard Pistol serial #1,000,000 which is housed at the National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia. Like his other works this revolver is tastefully designed and of the utmost quality. The left side of the grip frame is stamped "RV" and the revolver wears a set of smooth rosewood target style grips that rate excellent and have silver S&W medallions. Also featured are a red ramp front and adjustable rear sights. A lovely example of quality work that would be a wonderful addition to any S&W collection.
