This Marlin Golden 39-A was manufactured in 1963 (s/n Y 336x). It is in excellent condition and includes the factory installed sling swivels, front sight hood and hammer offset extension. The bore is excellent. There are no extra holes in the gun and it does not appear that a scope was ever used with it (plug screws in place on receiver top). There is a spot on the top of the barrel, approximately 8” behind the muzzle, where the bluing has thinned slightly; it takes little, however, from the overall beauty of the gun. The wood has minimal handling marks on it. While the gun has the micro-groove barrel, it retains the older oil finish on the wood that was used prior to the start of the Mar-Shield finish that began in 1970. There is little more that can be said about these magnificent guns; as 22 caliber rifles go, it is my considered opinion that the Model 39 (and all its variants) is unequalled. When comparing the cost of a new Model 39AS, this 46 year-old classic represents a great value. There is no box or original paperwork that accompanies this rifle. Please write for additional photographs of this gun.
