This listing is for one revolver, the exact one in the photos. FFLs and Law Enforcement, however, may take any number of very similar Model 64s at the same per-gun price and with no additional shipping charges. Here is the tried and true, accurate, simple and reliable Smith & Wesson .38 Special Military & Police Stainless, numbered Model 64. The 4 inch heavy barrel 64 is by far the most sensible handgun to own, from novice users to seasoned veterans. It is well balanced, delivers adequate energy with minimal felt recoil, and it is remarkably easy to hit with. This specimen of the Model 64, 3rd Engineering change, served with the Ohio Department of Corrections. From its AJA Serial number prefix, it was manufactured in 1985. Type is traditional double and single action revolver with internal transfer bar safety device. Construction is stainless steel, K Frame with Square Butt. Trigger is Classic Satin Stainless .312 smooth faced combat style, with matching .265 serrated spur service width hammer. Capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special standard or +P high performance ammunition. Weight empty is 35 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Grips are original issue Magna service Walnut panels. Surface detractions on this particular 64 are moderate, principally scouring on the lower right side of the frame, with less extensive scouring on its sharp edges; and holster buffing on its barrel and cylinder surfaces. Yoke screw shows minimal stress from annual armorer servicing. We rate it as Good, perhaps Very Good, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, however, should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. This 64-3 is Excellent mechanically. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, and the hammer travels 5 degrees after the cylinder times on all six positions in double action. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 25 degrees on all six after the cylinder times into place. Single action trigger pull is crisp, 3 1/2 pound vicinity. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal, less than 1/2 mm total movement by our estimate, both with the trigger relaxed and with it fully depressed. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is moderate, a shallow streak that traverses the width of the top strap, as the photos show. This revolver has not had very many +P rounds fired in it. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .008. This 27 year old service revolver has been well maintained and sparingly used during its career, and it is eminently serviceable for civilian or security use.
