Actual production, of course, takes place at the Remington Plant in Ilion, New York. type is lever action repeating rifle. Construction is steel metal and American Walnut. Chambering is .45-70 Government caliber, for jacketed or lead bullets interchangeably. Barrel is 22 inch with 12 groove right hand 1:20 Ballard rifling and .760 outside diameter behind the front sight. Sights are screw on three piece ramp front, with dovetailed brass tipped bead that is hood protected. Rear sight is dovetailed folding rear buckhorn type with step elevator insert for elevation. All Marlins are drilled for Weaver 63 size Bases or Rails, same mount as its smaller 336 sibling. Magazine is half tubed, holds 4 rounds of .45-70 ammunition, so 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Receiver has white steel bolt with band extractor, cross-receiver safety and lever safety. Trigger is .275 steel smooth faced, and the photo specimen pulled single stage at 7 pounds with negligible felt creep and overtravel. Hammer is .340 serrated spur, and the 1895 comes with a factory issue hammer spur for scoped shooting. Stock and forend are American Walnut with cut checkering laterlly on the forend and pistol grip area. Length of pull is 14 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch recoil pad, with a 1 inch right hand cant. Drop from the sights is 1 3/4 inch at the comb, and 2 3/4 inches at the heel. Buttstock and forend cap band have steel quick detach swivel studs. Weight empty is 7 pounds 7 ounces, with center of gravity at the front of the loading port. Overall length is 40 1/2 inches. Finish is blued steel, with matte receiver top, and oil finished walnut. Each 1895 comes in its foam lined box with hammer spur, instruction manual, lock, protective papers, hammer spur, and factory registration card.
