Fox A Grade 20ga. - EXCEPTIONAL FACTORY WOOD, NICE ORIGINAL GUN
Has anybody noticed? Where have all the Fox 20ga. Graded guns gone? A few years back you could cruise the internet or a good collector gun show and have at least a dozen choices of A Grade or better 20 ga. guns to choose from. For the last 2 years I have been searching for good Fox guns for my clients and they are gone! The shooting public caught on to the delightful weight and balance of the A.H. Fox 20 bore, bought them all up, and they aren't selling them. When you consider that there were only 3400 graded 20ga. Fox guns ever made, you understand why they are so hard to find. This fine Fox, sn202788 made in 1927, is one of 2400 Fox A Grade 20ga. guns ever made, likely less than 2100 left intact in the world! And this gun is quite desirable in many ways, with all factory original finishes including the wood, the wood being like a CE Grade gun with European walnut fully figured on both sides, and weight 5lbs. 11oz. and balanced right on the hinge pin for a superior handling gun. And of course with its strong desirability and rarity, it will only go up in value as you enjoy its use.
The factory 28" Chromox Steel #4wt barrels retain 90% blue, mirror bores, clear sharp lettering, choked M/F (.019/.035, can be altered to your specs for $75 per barrel within 14 days of purchase), 2 3/4" chambers, bore diameter .620 both, minimum wall thickness 20 thou right, 22 thou left, extractors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge like a new gun, tight ribs, a great set of barrels.
The receiver retains 30% fading case color, clear sharp engraving, excellent screws, action tight with lever way right of center, crisp double triggers, trigger guard 50% blue, mechanically excellent in every way.
The wood is in excellent condition, with desirable 1/2 round pistol grip and splinter forend retaining most of its finish, excellent checkering, no cracks or repairs, 14 1/4" to factory butt plate, 2 3/4" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 1/8" cast on, superb wood to metal fit. There is nice figure in the wood and the dimensions are very shootable. Stock can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase for about $200. Just let us know.
Scan the internet for any graded 20 bore Fox. I just did and there are 4 available; 2 SPE's, one AE with replaced butt stock, and one XE for $22,000. That is it. Not only is the Fox 20 bore the finest handling of the vintage American doubles, it is the most reliable and simple of them all. Buying rare, desirable Fox guns is a very wise investment. The demand far out paces supply, which can only lead to higher prices down the road. Now is the time to own one of the handful of factory original 20ga. Philly guns left in existence, and this one has the best wood you will find on a Fox A Grade. Soon you won't be able to find one to buy at any price.
There are more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun.
