This build started in 2009 and was just completed. NECG blueprinted the action to include squaring and lapping the lugs, fit and chambered the 24" Schneider stainless steel light sporter-weight barrel, and adjusted the action's feed rails to ensure smooth operation. NECG then installed the following: Warne Maxima bases with 8X40 Torx head screws, a custom bolt handle and checkered knob, a Dakota Arms three-position safety, a Recknagel steel trigger adjusted for 3 pounds, fit the Whitworth bottom metal to the action, fit the banded front sight base with folding hood, fit the Lyman Number 48 receiver sight, engraved "Five Cartridges" on the floor plate and the gun's serial number on the trigger bow. After the metal work was mostly done but before the metal was finished, McMillan installed one of their light weight Mauser stocks made from a combination of graphite, kevlar and fiberglass, pillar bedding it at the rear and full length bedding it to the end of the chamber area of the barrel. The remaining length of barrel is free floated. The stock is painted Logan Green, has stainless sling swivel studs and a brown Sporting Clays 1" recoil pad. The length of pull is 13.5". After the stock work was complete, the gun was sent to Birdsong for metal finishing in Black-T. NECG then assembled and checked the finished rifle to ensure 100% of the build was complete and the rifle operating as required. Finally, I mounted a Leupold M8 2.5X22mm Compact scope with a Duplex reticle in Warne Quick Detachable rings. The result is one of the finest hunting rifles money can buy, at home in either close brush or the open. Included with the gun are 200 new 338'06 cases (in the original factory boxes) and 40 once-fired cases, all manufactured by A-Square for Weatherby.
