Great piece of history here. This is a Colt Bisley Model revolver in .38 WCF (.38/40) with the 4 3/4" barrel.
The gun is an overall gray patina with a decent shootable bore that could use some cleaning. It has been shot with blackpowder ammunition, after all. Original grips show wear but are not chipped or cracked. Of course, all numbers match on this original, untouched revolver.
Colt Archives letter show the gun shipped in January, 1901, to Simmons Hardware in St Louis, MO. Simmons was the largest catalog mail-order store in the country at that time so no telling how it got to Texas but it did. I purchased it from a gentleman who said it has been in his family for a long time and his grandmother used it to shoot squirrels off the back porch. Haven't heard THAT one before, but I sure would have liked to see it!
