LG2989 Here is a very solid, authentic World War II Carbine manufactured in General Motors’s Inland Division Plant in Dayton, Ohio, assembled using a barrel from the Underwood Typewriter Company. It not only served during the liberation of Europe and Southeast Asia from 1944 until 1945; but it also has served and protected our fellow Americans in Detroit for 50 years with the Detroit Police Department, most importantly during the 1960s riots in the Motor City. Barrel is marked Underwood, and doubtless among the first so marked around the turn of 1944, when Inland went into production on their own barrels instead of using Underwoods; and the receiver is marked Inland Div. / with serial number beneath. From its 4999000 range serial number, we estimate this specimen was manufactured in early 1944. Cartouches on the pistol grip cap flat are authentic Detroit PD, a historical asset. Inlands with original Underwood barrels were quite common, and this one is in its original configuration. This carbine has no re-import stamps anywhere, it is domestic and American. Metal is original GI issue parkerized finish with extensive whitening. Stock is original GI walnut with a Detroit PD plain oil Armorer refinish. We rate this Carbine as Very Good, 70 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. Internally housed surfaces do not exhibit any pitting, nor does the bore, chamber, or gas mechanism. Internally, this carbine is bright, clean, and excellent. We see no evidence of corrosion on the undersides. It comes with an original issue Detroit PD 15 Round Magazine.
