Smith and Wesson WWII Victory British Proofs Guns > Pistols > Smith & Wesson Revolvers > Pre-1945

This is a WWII Smith and Wesson Victory Revolver in Caliber .38S&W (not 38 special.). Revolver was one of those evidently purchased directly from S&W by the British government before the start of the Lend Lease program as this Victory has no Lead Lease stamps. It does have the stamp of G.H.D on the receiver butt which is the stamp of Ordnance officer Guy H. Drewry showing that he approved the gun for service. The matching V marked serial numbers are located in four places: frame butt, the cylinder, underside of the barrel above the extractor rod and the cylinder extractor. The inside of one wooden grip also has a matching serial number which is correct. Revolver still retains the case harding color on the hammer and trigger. The mechanics of the pistol are in perfect working order. Bore is bright with sharp lands. Revolver has British Proof marking on the barrel, side of receiver and on each cartridge cylinder. Mark on right side of receiver by the S&W stamp appears to be caused by a holster strap. Victory has no import stamp. Victory revolvers with no import stamp, no Lead Lease markings and British proof markings are not common. Revolver would make a good addition to a collection or an excellent shooter. Revolver can be sold on a Curio and Relic ffl. Credit cards 3.2%. Revolver is coming from an estate. Many additional photos on request.
