ca. 1929-1930 Walther PP s/n 750614
Original finish early Walther PP pistol. Matching numbered slide has last 3 digits scribed inside, opposite the ejection port. All original Walther hi-polish finish.
Walther introduced the PP in 1929 and began serial numbers at 750614. The PP was the first successful double action semi-automatic handgun ever produced. Many other manufacturers have copied the Walther design since that time. Still today, early Walthers are highly-prized by collectors and favored by many for concealed carry personal protection because of their flawless action and sleek design.
This is believed to be the 614th Walther PP ever produced, and was most likely produced in the 1st year of production. Walther also released the PPk pistol, which shared a common serial number range with the PP for several years.
I do not know exactly how many PP pistols had been produced before the PPk was introduced in late 1929 or 1930. If the PPk was introduced before this pistol was manufactured, this pistol would be an earlier production PP...not the 614th produced. However, it is no later than the 614th PP produced.
The pistol is completely original high polish Walther blue. All parts of the pistol appear to be early production and original to the pistol, with the exception of the stocks and magazine which are WWII production parts. The stocks are "spoon" back wartime variation and the magazine is a late WWII production with the "W" on the right side.
There are several early parts on this PP that vary from later production pistols. Early PP and PPk variations are highly desirable and difficult to acquire.
The finish rates very good/excellent. There is some browning in the grip strap areas of the receiver. The overall pistol shows slight aging, but the straps show the majority of the patina, due to normal handling.
This pistol was acquired by a friend of mine ca. 1968 from the WWII U.S. Army veteran who brought the pistol back after the war ended. I purchased this pistol some years later and it remains exactly as I purchased it.

May consider nice, original military M1911 or M1911A1 pistols as trades.
I am a collector of all U.S. military issue handguns, especially the M1911, M1911A1 and Colt Govt. Model pistols. My primary interest involves U.S. military pistols and revolvers manufactured before 1947. However, I also collect high quality WWII Axis pistols and Colts manufactured up about 1980.
I am a Life Member of the N.R.A., CCA and several other collector associations. I am a member of several online forum sites, but generally only post in the collector boards. I administer a website to provide inspection services for USGI handguns and provide collector information and photos.
I regularly buy to upgrade my collection. We attend more than 30 gun shows each year and regularly exhibit displays at some of the major shows and the Colt Collector Association annual conventions. I also provide paid inspections at the shows through our website.
I am acknowledged in Clawson's Collectors Guide and Meadows' Volume II and have acquired several pistols featured in books and articles authored by Clawson, Meadows, Pate and Brunner. feel free to contact me for more information or references.
I am not an 01 FFL and use a local shop for all transactions requiring shipment and dealer transfers. I do legal face-to-face transactions only where permitted by law.
