This is the highly sought after Belgian (FN) Browning, small ring Mauser, Safari Grade, rifle in .308 Winchester caliber, with "pencil barrel." It's designed as a lightweight rifle, with aluminum bottom metal (trigger guard and mag bottom). This particular series rifle was discontinued in 1964. None of the Browning Safari Grades in .308 were ever made with the "salt wood" stocks, and this is doubly confirmed in this case by a test of the butt stock screws which exhibit no sign of rust when removed and inspected. The steel (barrel and action) is in excellent shape all around (98% of blue remains), with no trace of rust anywhere. Bore is excellent. The bottom metal (aluminum) has some finish wear from handling in the field. The stock, though extremely beautiful in grain, shows evenly dispersed wear from handling afield, with the occasional superficial ding or scratch here and there. Only one major point of damage appears on the stock (on a high point of the Monte Carlo), which is strictly a cosmetic issue, and could easily be corrected should one wish to refinish the stock. The original synthetic butt plate indicates a good bit of contact with the ground while afield. All parts are original. No rear sight is installed. Missing front sight guard. Stock has original sling swivel attachment points which accept Uncle Mikes'. The rifle comes with rings/bases for scope mounting, but not a scope.
